In a significant development in the fight against child sexual exploitation, seven men have been charged with over 40 offences in Bristol, involving 11 teenage victims. The charges, which include rape, sexual assault, and facilitating the sexual exploitation of a child, stem from a two-year investigation initiated in November 2023 after concerns were raised about the exploitation of a teenage girl.

Investigation and Arrests

The accused, aged between 19 and 26, were apprehended during a targeted police operation in Bristol. They appeared at Bristol Magistrates Court, where they were denied bail and remanded in custody. The case is set to progress to a plea and trial preparation hearing at Bristol Crown Court on 17 December.

Details of the Charges

Among those charged is Mohamed Arafe, 19, from Speedwell, Bristol, facing multiple counts of arranging or facilitating the sexual exploitation of a child, alongside drug-related charges. Sina Omari, 20, from Fishponds, Bristol, is charged with rape and making indecent photographs of a child. Other defendants include Wadie Sharaf, 21, and Mohammed Kurdi, 21, both facing serious sexual offence charges.

Avon and Somerset Police have underscored the complexity of the investigation, emphasizing the protection of young girls and community awareness. Detective Chief Inspector Tom Herbert stated, "This remains a complex and sensitive investigation which has the protection of young girls from exploitation and the disruption of offending at its very heart."

Superintendent Deepak Kenth highlighted ongoing efforts to engage with local businesses and communities to raise awareness about the signs of exploitation and the importance of reporting concerns.
