In Teignmouth, the iconic Victorian pier, a beloved structure since 1867, succumbed to the storm's relentless waves. Mayor Cate Williams described the scene as "a real battering," with the pier losing a significant portion of its structure. "It's really sad," she remarked, highlighting the pier's role as a focal point of the town. Meanwhile, in Dawlish, resident Peter Large reported that the sea wall protecting the railway line had crumbled, leaving an 80 to 90-foot gap. This has led to the suspension of train services between Exeter St Davids and Plymouth, with debris and water obstructing the tracks.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain across south-west England, including Devon, Cornwall, and parts of Somerset and South Wales, valid until 22:00 GMT. The Environment Agency has also issued 13 flood warnings, indicating expected flooding, and 135 flood alerts across the country. The agency warns that continued rainfall could exacerbate the situation, with some areas potentially receiving up to 50mm of rain.
