A comprehensive search is underway for a 76-year-old British man who fell overboard from the Marella Explorer 2 cruise ship off the coast of Tenerife. The incident occurred on Thursday morning as the vessel was navigating towards La Gomera, one of the Canary Islands.

The ship was located approximately 16.5 nautical miles northwest of Punta de Teno, Tenerife, when the man was last seen entering the water. The search operation has involved rescue boats, helicopters, and a specialist aircraft, yet the man remained missing as of Friday evening.

Marella Cruises, operated by TUI, confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern for the missing passenger. Lesley-Anne Kelly, a passenger aboard the Marella Explorer 2, recounted the moment the alarm sounded, indicating a "man overboard" situation. "It was pretty sombre last night, especially after the announcement that they were standing down the search," she said.
