Nico Antic, a vibrant and sporty young boy, was enjoying an afternoon with friends at a harbour beach in Vaucluse when he was attacked by what is suspected to be a bull shark. Despite the heroic efforts of his friends, who bravely jumped into the water to rescue him, Nico sustained severe leg injuries. He was rushed to Sydney Children's Hospital, where he was placed in an induced coma but tragically passed away days later.

In a heartfelt statement, Nico's parents, Lorena and Juan, expressed their profound grief, describing their son as "full of life" and thanking the community for their overwhelming support. An online fundraiser has garnered nearly $240,000 to assist the family during this difficult time.

The attack on Nico was part of a series of shark incidents along the New South Wales coast, with four reported within a span of 48 hours. Experts attribute this surge in activity to recent heavy rainfall, which has created murky water conditions favorable to bull sharks. The rain also flushes nutrients into the water, potentially drawing sharks closer to shore.
