In a shocking development, Ukrainian authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the assassination of prominent politician Andriy Parubiy. The 54-year-old former parliamentary speaker was gunned down in Lviv on Saturday by an assailant posing as a delivery courier, sparking a nationwide manhunt. President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the arrest, emphasizing the importance of uncovering all details surrounding this "horrific murder."

The suspect was apprehended in the western Khmelnytskyi region, according to Ukraine's Interior Minister Igor Klymenko. He revealed that the crime was meticulously orchestrated, with Parubiy's travel itinerary and escape routes carefully planned. "Many details cannot be shared at this time," Klymenko stated, underscoring the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Parubiy, who served as the speaker of Ukraine's parliament from April 2016 to August 2019, was a pivotal figure during the Euromaidan protests of 2013-14. These demonstrations, which he helped lead, were instrumental in advocating for closer ties with the European Union and ultimately led to the ousting of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych.

The attack has sent shockwaves through Ukraine, a nation already grappling with security challenges amid ongoing conflict. President Zelensky, in a message on Telegram, praised law enforcement for their swift action and reiterated the need for a thorough investigation. "All the circumstances of this horrific murder must be uncovered," he asserted.

Unverified footage of the incident shows the attacker, dressed as a courier, approaching Parubiy on the street before opening fire. Lviv police chief Oleksandr Shliakhovskyi confirmed that approximately eight shots were fired. The delivery company Glovo, whose uniform the assailant allegedly wore, expressed shock and pledged full cooperation with the investigation.
