Spanish singer Julio Iglesias is under investigation following allegations of sexual assault and human trafficking made by two former employees. The accusations, which have surfaced through a joint investigation by Spanish news site elDiario.es and Univision, claim that the incidents took place in 2021 at Iglesias's luxurious properties in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and Lyford Cay, Bahamas.

Allegations and Investigation

The two women, identified by pseudonyms Rebeca and Laura, allege that they were subjected to inappropriate touching and coercive behavior in a hostile work environment. Rebeca, a domestic worker, described being called to Iglesias's room regularly, where she was allegedly assaulted. Laura, a physical therapist, reported unwanted advances and a controlling atmosphere, where Iglesias allegedly monitored her food intake and made derogatory comments about her weight.

The investigation, which spanned three years, involved interviews with 15 former employees and is backed by extensive evidence, including photographs, call logs, and medical reports. The women have filed a legal complaint with Spain's national court, the Audiencia Nacional, which handles cases of crimes committed outside the country's borders.

Responses and Reactions

Despite repeated attempts, Iglesias and his legal team have not commented on the allegations. However, a manager at one of his Caribbean properties dismissed the claims as "nonsense." Some of Iglesias's allies, including journalist Miguel Ángel Pastor, have publicly defended him, labeling the accusations as baseless.

A Culture of Control and Fear

The reports paint a picture of a workplace dominated by fear and control, where abuse was allegedly normalized. The women described a recruitment process targeting young women through social media, with applicants required to submit photos and answer personal questions. Rebeca referred to the environment as "a nightmare," likening it to a "house of terror."
